What is the WPS? – WPS Button, and More

WPS positions for “Wi-Fi Protected Setup” give you an easier way to connect the devices to your router.
If you connected the device to a router before, you’ve likely experienced the horrors of default router passwords.

And these are usually printed somewhere in the back and contain a long string of letters, numbers, and symbols that you need to enter to use the router.

Also, the default password is convoluted to keep hackers out of the router. If the password is set something easy, like “admin,” the hacker can guess it and get access to your router.

And back before, randomly generated default passwords were a thing, And changing them was the top tip it secure your network.
As these complex default router passwords are strong from the get-go, it’s not uncommon for someone to never change it.

Also, it does mean that someone can access your Wi-Fi if they read the password on the back.

However, if someone breaks into your home to read your router’s password, you’ve got more significant issues than someone watching Netflix on your data plan.

So, if it’s relatively safe, it assumes that anyone within the touching range of your router is not the bad guy. Why not make the button that does the same thing? That’s what the WPS button is.

What did the WPS Button Do?

The WPS button accepts that if someone is in the touching range of the router, they allow to connect the device to it.

So, instead of typing in that long password, Also you can hit the button and connect the device that way.
When you press the button, the router starts looking for compatible devices to find any devices looking for a WPS-enabled router to connect it.

And the two automatically pair up. If nothing connects to the router in about two minutes, the router stops looking.

Also, note that not all devices can connect using WPS. Devices designs before WPS caught on won’t work with it, and some newer gadgets take dropped WPS support altogether.

Also, you usually can’t tell if a device works with WPS or not. But if it is, you see a “connect via WPS” option when connecting it to a new router.
